Support RPS Families during Virtual School!
My August bake sale is focusing on supporting RPS students and families with back to school! So I decided to do a gourmet after school snack pack. (Thank you Michael and Laura Photography for these cute photos!)
Covid 19 seems to be highlighting so many ways our country falls short in caring for our people. From access to public health, to work safety, and now education. With school starting virtually this fall, there are so many families and teachers who won’t have access to the resources they need to really make sure their students are given the opportunity to excel this fall. It’s so tough. The school board made a decision that they believed was best for the safety of our community. And safety is so important right now! But that doesn’t change the fact that this puts many families in a tough situation right now, while they are trying to do what is best for their children.
I was so excited to get pointed towards this collection of fundraisers organized by teachers of RPS. These superstars (seriously, y’all rock) are gathering supplies like tablets, organization tools, toys for interactive learning, culturally relevant books, and so much more to ensure students are equipped with everything they need at home to have a successful fall semester.
For this bake sale, we supported Ms. Thomas, raising funds to provide extra math and literacy tools for her pre-k students at Blackwell. I love what she had to say about her students:
“I teach students in an urban area. The students receive reduced/free lunch. The students that I serve are smart, inspiring, resilient and beautiful! Despite the challenging situations that my students see and experience, they continue to smile and is always ready to learn!”
There are still lots of teachers looking for support. You can peruse and pick a project that jumps out to you, or let donors choose pick a project for you with a general donation. Each project also includes a breakdown of how the money will be used. I thought that transparency was so cool!
