It’s a halloween bake sale!
Happy halloween, witches!!! 👻 By now we’re all over talking about how weird and ~uNprEceDeNteD~ this year has been. But I also have a feeling as we enter the holiday season, it could serve as another reminder of how tough and strange things have been. So I’m real excited to be offering a small sense of normalcy and celebration while giving back for Halloween this year with some candy boxes benefitting St. Andrews School! They are a great organization that I’m thrilled to be working with this fall. Here is some info from them about the work they do, the challenges they are facing right now, and ways you can get involved:
An independent K-5 school located in Richmond’s Oregon Hill, St. Andrew’s School (SAS) supports each of its 96 students through a whole child approach to education, including fundamentals such as visual and performing arts (every student learns how to play the violin!), health and wellness (home cooked meals daily!), and social and emotional learning (a social work counselor on staff!)
Due to COVID-19, SAS has had to “rebuild” their school several times over – transitioning to virtual learning to hybrid learning and back to virtual learning. But the one constant for students and their families has been the school’s commitment to providing a whole child education – whether in-person or virtually.
SAS and Arley Cakes have aligning missions in that we both work every day to create a better world. For SAS, that’s through education. Every student at SAS receives a full scholarship to attend and have the opportunity every day to grow their intellectual, emotional, and spiritual health.
There are many ways to get involved at SAS. Make a gift today! Through their Lunch Buddy program and Book Club program, there are opportunities for community volunteers to meet weekly with pairs of students. Volunteers also enjoy helping in the art classroom, working behind the scenes for classroom prep, and assisting in the front office as needed. Due to the school being fully virtual until the end of the calendar year, all volunteering is currently on hold. However, this will not be forever. They are continuing to maintain and build their volunteer base so that they are ready to fill all volunteer needs when their doors reopen.
Anyone interested in learning more about our volunteer programs should reach out to Angie Heyming.
