Help spread the vote!

Happy fall y’all! For this months bake sale we’ll be supporting Spread the Vote, and we’re doing fall donuts! Spread the Vote is an organization that helps ensure people are ready to vote, particularly in states with strict voting ID laws. This includes Virginia, and they have volunteers on the ground in our very own Richmond. Spread the Vote helps people register to vote, educates registered voters on the ID requirements in their states, and assists them in obtaining the right documentation. This is so huge! According to their site, 21 million eligible voters don’t have photo identification. It’s actually a huge reason many people don’t vote—and it effects minorities with low income more than anyone. Bakers Against Racism recently put out a call for bakers to bake the vote. And with the passing of RBG this weekend, I feel like our country has been woken up once again to how important it is for us to make our voices heard through voting this November. But so many laws and hurdles have been put in place to disenfranchise the most vulnerable of our communities. So I’m really excited to be supporting this organization!
